Not to worry though we are still having our combined Annual Picnic (pot luck) and September Meeting so we can still get together and raise funds for Pennies4Parrots on Sunday, September 12 at 1:00 PM.

The location is the same as last year, namely the CAW Hall (small school house) located at 611 Silvercreek Parkway in Guelph. A separate notice will be mailed out with all the details including directions.

The picnic will be pot luck (club will provide drinks).  There will be lots of fun activities as well as face painting by our own very talented Nathalie Lemieux for both kids and adults.  She does some awesome work!!

We have some extremely important issues to discuss and we would ask that as many members attend this event as possible so that we can receive valuable input on decisions that must be made regarding future club meetings.

We will also be introducing a new campaign that will benefit all parrot owners moving forward.

Be sure to bring your pennies and loose change on Sunday to add to the GTPC’s Pennies4Parrots jar. This year’s proceeds will be donated to the newly unveiled campaign.

On a long shot I thought I would report a sighting of an Australian Lorikeet.

We were moving a home in the Acton/Rockwood area and this bird watched us on the roof for a half hour before having a rest in the shade. It flew into the trees near by and then across the road. It was definitely interested in all of us but would not come down. This was Sat May 29th 2010.

This bird was spotted on the Nassagaweya 6th line south of Hwy 7, north of sideroad 25 near Acton and Rockwood. South of Nellis Construction Ltd.

It’s hard to find lost and found sites locally.

Do you have any extra bird cages or toys that your birds simply don’t like? Bring any avian related items to June’s club meeting that you wish to sell. Individuals are also welcome to bring arts and crafts that you think parrot enthusiats would like to buy as well.

Macaw Projects in MexicoJennifer and Haley Weber will give a talk on the Military Macaw Rehabilitation Program which Jennifer visited this winter in Puerto Vallarta. It represents the work of Carlos Bonilla, a Mexican biologist, and Claudia Magallon, a Mexican veterinarian, who are fighting to save the military macaws. They are Mexico’s only native macaw species and they are 70 percent extinct. Slide presentation, DVD and “Adopt A Nest Program” will be discussed. Check out Carlos Bonilla’s blog on PI Press.

Jen Weber will also be giving us a short presentation about her encounter with Carlos Bonilla when she was in Mexico. He is involved in the Military Macaw Project.

Suzan will be away and I will be there by 7:30 pm. I won’t be able to stay all evening, so we will have to hold a shorter meeting this month.

The picnic will be pot luck (club will provide drinks). Bring your feathered (and in some cases your “not so feathered”) friends and participate in this year’s Festival of Parrots. If last year was any indication we are definitely going to have a blast! There are lots of “unique” categories so everyone is sure to go home a winner. GTPC Award Ribbons are waiting for your FIDS. We will also have fun activities for owner and parrot alike with prizes for the winners. Don’t miss out on the fun. This year’s proceeds will be donated to the CPC’s Pennies 4 Parrots (www.pennies4parrots.ca) campaign (you can play games / get tickets tickets for as low as $0.01 to participate), so dig into your penny/coin jars and come armed and ready!

Some of our members have indicated they will donate any funds raised to the GTPC’s Pennies4Parrots challenge (www.pennies4parrots.ca) to help boost our fund raising dollars.

Emerald Feather (www.emeraldfeather.com) will also be on hand with a selection of goods for sale.  They will be donating 20% of all sales to the GTPC Pennies4Parrots fund.

Looking forward to seeing you all on June 10th.

The club will provide supplies (we are asking for a $2 donation to help offset the costs). You are also welcome to contribute to the pile and add your creativity to making these treats for our feathered friends.

CPC09 Featured Birds Photo Submission Deadline. If you don’t have any good photos of your birds, bring them to this month’s club meeting and we will take photos! Maybe your bird will be the next bird on all of the CPC advertising and tote bags for 2009!!

Here are the rules:

You must be a paid up member of GTPC to submit a photo of your feathered friend

We need two photos

– a good shoulder and head shot (side view)

– a full body picture (any angle as)

Photos must be print size as follows:

- 5″ x 7″ 1500 x 2100 pixels or

- 8″ x 10″ 2400 x 3000 pixels (preferred)

Bring your digital copies to the club meeting or e-mail them to info@gtpc.ca with the subject CPC09 Featured Birds.
